TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A fixed-wing Sky Ranger aerosport aircraft crashed and caught fire in a paddy field in Sarimulyo Village, Ngawen District, Blora Regency, Central Java. The accident occurred on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at approximately 12:10 p.m. local time.
Head of the Blora Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Comr. Zaenul Arifin, stated that the aircraft suffered engine failure mid-flight. "As a result, it made an emergency landing in the rice fields," Zaenul said in a written statement on Monday, September 7, 2026.
He explained that the aircraft was en route from Pangandaran, West Java, to Malang, East Java. The aircraft had made a brief stopover at Adisucipto Airport in Yogyakarta to refuel. Upon taking off again, the plane suddenly encountered engine trouble.
The pilot then attempted an emergency landing in the surrounding rice fields. "The landing was not smooth; the aircraft crashed and then caught fire," Zaenul said.
The plane sustained heavy damage from the crash. An inspection at the scene revealed that the bulk of the fuselage was heavily damaged and scorched. Only scattered wreckage remained at the crash site.
Meanwhile, both crew members, pilot Dhoni Vasmin A, 39, and copilot Ignatius Andreas, 31, survived the crash. "Both survived with minor injuries and have received medical attention at the Ngawen Community Health Center," Zaenul said.
Zaenul confirmed that the aerosport plane did not belong to any military entity. "The flight was conducted for training purposes and fleet condition checks," Zaenul said.
Investigators continue to inspect the wreckage at the crash site. According to Zaenul, the examination aims to determine the exact cause of the crash.
Earlier, Air Force Public Relations Chief First Marshal I Nyoman Suadnyana noted that the aircraft bore registration number PK-S360. "The plane was flying from Adisucipto Air Force Base to Abdulrachman Saleh Air Force Base in Malang. During the flight, the aircraft suffered engine failure, prompting the pilot to divert toward Ngloram Airport in Blora," Nyoman said as reported by Kumparan.
However, before reaching the runway, the aircraft was forced to execute an emergency landing in the paddy fields. Upon coming to a halt, the plane caught fire. Meanwhile, the two crew members managed to evacuate safely.
The PK-S360 aircraft had previously taken part in the Pangandaran Air Show in West Java on Saturday, September 5, 2026. "To establish the cause of the incident, an evaluation of the aircraft and contributing factors is underway to prevent similar occurrences in the future," he said.
