AGO Uncovers Plot Involving 150 Buzzers to Disrupt Corruption Investigations

3 days ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has named M. Adhiya Muzakki a suspect in an obstruction of justice case. Abdul Qohar Affandi, Director of Investigations at the Special Crimes Division (Jampidsus), said Adhiya led a team of buzzers who spread negative content aimed at undermining the AGO’s handling of major corruption cases involving cooking oil, tin, and sugar imports.

“These narratives were designed to discredit our efforts in prosecuting these cases,” Qohar said during a press conference on Wednesday night, May 7.

According to Qohar, Adhiya commanded roughly 150 operatives grouped under the so-called Cyber Army Team. He divided them into five units: Mustafa Team 1 through 5.

“Each Mustafa team consisted of buzzers, totaling around 150 individuals,” said Qohar.

Adhiya allegedly coordinated his team to flood social media with negative content targeting the AGO. Qohar added that the content had been produced earlier by suspended JakTV news director Tian Bahtiar, who was previously named a suspect.

The buzzers then circulated the material across platforms including TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), receiving Rp1.5 million in compensation for their efforts.

“Their job was to respond to and comment negatively on the content created by suspect Tian Bahtiar,” Qohar said.

Beyond working with Tian, Adhiya also collaborated with two other suspects in the same case: Marcella Santoso and Junaidi Saibih. The pair were allegedly responsible for drafting the anti-AGO narratives targeting prosecutors and investigators.

“These stories were based on material provided by suspects Marcella and Junaidi, containing language aimed at discrediting the AGO,” Qohar noted.

The case originated from the earlier indictment of Marcella Santoso and Ariyanto in a bribery scandal involving a judge’s acquittal in the cooking oil corruption case at the Central Jakarta District Court. Later, the AGO named Marcella a suspect in this separate obstruction of justice probe.

Investigators claim Marcella instructed Junaidi to craft disparaging narratives about the AGO while it was pursuing high-profile investigations into PT Timah, sugar import corruption, and the cooking oil scandal. Marcella and Junaidi allegedly asked Tian to disseminate the narratives via JakTV and through the network of buzzers.
