TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple has partnered with WWF Indonesia to conserve the Bukit Tigapuluh landscape in Sumatra. The partnership includes providing technology and tools to facilitate monitoring in the tropical rainforest landscape, which is home to tigers, orangutans, and Sumatran elephants.
Apple's Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, Lisa Jackson, described this partnership as support for the restoration of the Bukit Tigapuluh landscape in Sumatra. "We are proud to help protect the local community and wildlife that depend on this valuable ecosystem," said Lisa in a written statement on Monday, December 15, 2025.
The partnership between Apple and WWF is also part of the global technology giant's commitment to mitigating climate change. As a company, Apple has set a net-zero carbon target through energy transition and contributes to environmental conservation to avert the climate crisis.
According to the partnership agreement, the technological aid is useful for the WWF field team in Bukit Tigapuluh during patrols and wildlife monitoring. Apple has also provided server support to help WWF Indonesia track illegal logging locations and oversee the environment more easily.
CEO of WWF Indonesia, Aditya Bayunanda, stated that the Bukit Tigapuluh landscape is a global biodiversity treasure trove and home to endangered species. "The partnership with Apple demonstrates the power of collaboration in advancing our team's work and the local indigenous community in the field," said Aditya.
He revealed that the collaboration with Apple relates to WWF Indonesia's Eyes on the Forest and camera trap survey programs. This is a vital program for WWF to monitor tropical forest landscapes like Bukit Tigapuluh. Through this work, ecosystem recovery and protection will be maximized.
"We are strengthening our capacity to protect and provide opportunities for endangered species such as the Sumatran tiger, Sumatran elephant, and Sumatran orangutan to continue to survive," said Aditya.
