TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A new tourist experience can be enjoyed in Penglipuran Village, Bangli Regency, Bali, Indonesia. This tourism village offers a concept that allows tourists to experience being a Balinese for a day. They will wear Bali traditional costume and witness cultural attractions in the village.
The Head of Penglipuran Village, Wayan Sumiarsa, stated that this experience is available during the Nataru holiday season starting from December 21, 2025. He said, "Tourists want to experience being a Balinese for a day by wearing Bali traditional costume, which is currently in high demand. We will combine this, so when they wear Bali traditional costume, they can also directly witness the cultural attractions we have in Penglipuran," as quoted by Antara.
During the Christmas and New Year period, the traditional village community has prepared various cultural attractions, including the barong and tiger parade performed by the younger generation.
Exploring the Village and Tasting Local Cuisine
In addition to watching shows, tourists wearing traditional costumes can explore the village from south to north, entering the bamboo forest. There are many interesting things to see, considering Penglipuran was awarded the Best Tourism Village by UN Tourism in 2024.
Moreover, tourists can also taste the local cuisine served there, such as mujair nyat-nyat. This dish is made from mujair fish cooked with various spices until the water evaporates.
The experience of being a Balinese can also be felt by staying in the village. Sumiarsa mentioned that traditional houses in the village are now opened as local accommodations, offering the experience of staying in the village's traditional houses.
Number of Tourist Visits
With this concept, the management of Penglipuran Village predicts the number of tourist visits to reach 3,000 visits per day. This number is adjusted to the carrying capacity to avoid overtourism, especially since tourists on vacation will be mingling with local residents who preserve the village's authenticity.
Based on visitor data, domestic tourists are estimated to be the dominant visitors. From January to November 2025, the number of visits to Penglipuran Village reached 826,000 or an average of 2,000 visits per day. Therefore, it is estimated that by Christmas or the end of the year, visits will reach 900,000.
