TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning about the potential for heavy rainfall in six West Java regencies. Throughout the second ten days of this month, heavy rain is expected in Bogor, Sukabumi, Majalengka, Kuningan, Ciamis, and Tasikmalaya.
From December 11-20, 2025, according to the BMKG Climatology Station in West Java, the majority, or 92 percent, of West Java will be dominated by medium rainfall with intensities between 50-150 millimeters per ten-day period. Meanwhile, 6 percent of the area is classified as having low rainfall. This includes the northern parts of Bekasi, Karawang, and Indramayu.
Weather forecaster at the BMKG Climatology Station in West Java, Alita Nuraeni, stated that several atmospheric phenomena will increase the potential for convective cloud growth from December 15-21, 2025. One of the conditions that triggers rain is the presence of atmospheric waves, such as Rossby and Low Equatorial waves, which are predicted to remain active in West Java.
"Cyclonic circulation has also been observed in the southern part of Java Island, which has the potential to cause convergence or wind meeting in several areas of West Java," said Alita in a written statement on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
The predicted humidity is high. The sea surface temperature in the southern waters of Java is also relatively warm. Alita also mentioned that atmospheric instability, which is categorized as mild to strong, indicates the potential for convective cloud growth on a local scale.
On Tuesday, December 16, moderate to very heavy rain is expected in the regencies of Bogor, Sukabumi, and Cianjur. The distribution of rain, which may be accompanied by thunder and strong winds, will be slightly different on Wednesday, December 17, namely in the regencies of Bogor, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Purwakarta, Subang, Bandung, and West Bandung. Then Sumedang, Cirebon, Indramayu, Majalengka, Kuningan, Garut, Tasikmalaya, up to Pangandaran.
On Thursday, December 18, the prediction of moderate to very heavy rain is prioritized for cities and regencies of Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Karawang, Purwakarta, Subang, Bandung Regency, West Bandung, and Sumedang. The same conditions also apply to the cities and regencies of Cirebon, Majalengka, Kuningan, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Banjar, and Pangandaran.
Over the weekend, from Friday to Sunday, December 19-21, 2025, it is likely to rain heavily over Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Karawang, Purwakarta, Subang, West Bandung, and up to Sumedang. Additionally, it will rain in Cirebon, Indramayu, Majalengka, Kuningan, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Banjar, and Pangandaran.
