
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta's Anniversary is around the corner. The capital city is preparing to celebrate its 498th birthday with a series of events.
As reported by Antara, the Jakarta Provincial Government will feature a music stage during Car Free Day (CFD) every week in the lead-up to its anniversary.
"Every week, Car Free Day will feature music. That makes the people of Jakarta not only healthy but also happy," stated Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno after the inauguration of Jakarta's 498th Anniversary in Blok M, South Jakarta, on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
The CFD music stage will be set up at three locations: Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Dukuh Atas, and Bundaran HI. The 498th Jakarta Anniversary will encompass a long series of events, ranging from the Jakarta Light Festival at Lapangan Banteng to the Betawi puppet show at Fatahillah Museum.
Theme and Agenda of Jakarta's 498th Anniversary
The inauguration of Jakarta's 498th Anniversary carries the theme "Jakarta, a Global and Cultural City". This inauguration also marked the official opening of the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Blok M Hub on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
Meanwhile, the peak of Jakarta's 498th anniversary agenda will be on Sunday, June 22, 2025, with the holding of "The Bustle of Jakarta's Anniversary."
Some of the event series include Jakarta Illumination Island, held from June 2-8, 2025. This event offers a night tour experience with artistic lighting arrangements on Pramuka Island. Additionally, the Jakarta Light Festival, featuring spectacular lighting at Lapangan Banteng Park, will transform it into a vibrant public space at night.
Following these, the Jakarta Great Sale Festival will run from June 10 to July 10, 2025, a large-scale discount and promotion program at shopping centers designed to attract tourists.
Furthermore, the East Jakarta Regional Government will host the East Jakarta Agriculture Festival (EastJakFest) on June 10, 2025, at the East Jakarta Arts and Culture Training Center (PPSB) on Jalan Haji Naman, Pondok Kelapa, Duren Sawit.
There will also be the Jakarnaval on June 15, 2025, featuring cultural parades and community attractions, which have become an annual highlight.
Later, the Jakarta Fair (PRJ) will take place from June 19 to July 13, 2025, showcasing a multi-sector exhibition that serves as a platform for shopping, entertainment, and promoting national products. Concurrently, the peak event of Jakarta's Anniversary will be held on June 22, 2025, as a collaborative activity celebrating diversity and pride as citizens of Jakarta.
