TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The influence of Tropical Cyclone 93S has finally reached Jakarta and its neighboring regions. The persistent rainfall over the past two days is the result of a cyclone forming, which began on December 11.

It initially formed in the Indian Ocean south of Bali and West Nusa Tenggara. Among the impacts of the growth and movement of 93S is the high-intensity rainfall that caused widespread flooding in Bali on December 11 and 14-15.

"Yes, the rainfall in Jakarta and its surrounding areas over the past 2-3 days is due to the movement of 93S," said Erma Yulihastin, a climatologist at the Research Center for Climate and Atmosphere of the BRIN, when contacted on Friday morning, December 19, 2025.

The latest data and analysis from BMKG (Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics) indeed reveal that the cyclone's circulation center was located in the southern region of West Java as of Friday morning. Its movement is stated to be southwestward, away from Indonesian waters, with maximum wind speeds of 65 kilometers per hour.

BMKG predicts that the intensity of 93S will gradually increase over the next 24 hours. The system is then forecast to develop into a category 1 tropical cyclone on Sunday night, December 21, 2025.

Currently, according to BMKG, Tropical Cyclone 93S indirectly impacts the extreme weather conditions and waters in Indonesia as follows:

  • Moderate to heavy rainfall: in the regions of Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java.
  • Strong winds: in the southern coastal areas of Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java.
  • Moderate wave heights (1.25 - 2.50 m): in the western waters of Lampung, western Indian Ocean of Lampung, Sunda Strait, southern sea of East Java to NTT, Bali-Lombok-Alas southern part, southern Indian Ocean from East Java to NTT.
  • High wave heights (2.5 - 4.0 m): in the southern waters of Banten to Yogyakarta and the southern Indian Ocean from Banten to Yogyakarta.
