Export Agency Plan Softens

6 hours ago 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Over the past month, National Economic Council (DEN) Chair Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has repeatedly promoted plans to implement an artificial intelligence (AI)-based government technology system. On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Luhut announced plans to deploy the system for social assistance distribution starting later this year. "With this system, President Prabowo will receive accurate data," he said at his office in Central Jakarta.

According to Luhut, similar technology will be used to strengthen the Inter-Ministerial/Agency Mineral and Coal Information System (Simbara) in monitoring critical mineral exports. "With this system, we can reduce leakage by Rp1,500-2,000 trillion (around US$84.3-112.3 billion). We just need to continue expanding it to other commodities," he said.

The idea marks a new chapter in plans to regulate exports of coal, crude palm oil, and ferroalloys through Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI). The "single-gate export" policy for the three commodities was previously announced by President Prabowo Subianto during a plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Although Prabowo stated in that speech that implementation was targeted for June 1, 2026, several officials emphasized that the full application of export controls through DSI would only take place after input from various business associations had been taken into account.
