TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A video containing claims of flash floods hitting residential areas in Lampung Province, Indonesia, circulated on X [archive] on December 9, 2025. The upload appears to have been recorded from the top of a building. The visuals show rows of houses surrounded by flash floods.

Is it true that the recording depicts a flood disaster situation in Lampung?

FACT CHECK

Tempo verified the content using reverse image search applications and credible news sites. The results show that the flash flood in the video occurred in Padang City, West Sumatra.

An identical video was found in posts by the Padang TV and Sumbar TV accounts dated November 27, 2025. The recording was taken at the Lumin Park Cluster Housing Complex, Lubuk Minturun Village, Koto Tangah District, Padang City.

Several buildings look similar to those in the housing promotion video uploaded by agen properti padang (Padang real estate agency)'s YouTube account on July 13, 2021. The similarities can be seen in the balconies with light steel railings and balcony posts with black garden lights.

The same image was also published by Padang Ekspres about flooding in Padang on November 27, 2025. The flooding occurred after heavy rains caused the Lubuk Minturun River to overflow. As a result, residential areas near the river were submerged in two meters of floodwater.

The Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that flash floods and landslides had caused 238 deaths as of December 10, 2025.

Disaster in Sumatra

Flash floods hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra in late November 2025. As of December 10, 2025, the death toll reached 969, while search and rescue operations were still ongoing.

The BNPB's emergency response geoportal dashboard for the three provinces updated the number of missing victims from 264 to 262. A total of 5,000 people were injured and more than one million residents were forced to evacuate.

Meanwhile, Radar Lampung reported that floods also hit Tanggamus and Pesisir Barat districts in Lampung in early December 2025. This disaster affected 350 people and submerged 115 houses. Data shows that the level of damage in Lampung was not as severe as in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

CONCLUSION

Based on verification, Tempo concludes that the claim that the video shows housing in Lampung hit by flash floods is misleading. The footage actually shows the flood situation in Padang at the end of November 2025.
