TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Moderate to heavy rainfall returned to the Greater Jakarta or Jabodetabek region early Friday morning, December 19, 2025. In a weather alert issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) at 6:00 a.m., officials noted that significant precipitation is currently concentrated across the western reaches of the metropolitan area.
The BMKG initially identified the potential for heavy rain in several districts of the Bogor Regency, including Jasinga, Parung Panjang, and Tenjo, as well as Jambe and Cisauk in the Tangerang Regency. Meteorologists warn that this weather system is likely to expand, eventually covering the entirety of Tangerang Regency, Tangerang City, and South Tangerang.
In the Bogor Regency, the rain is expected to push further into Parung, Gunung Sindur, Rumpin, Cigudeg, Ciseeng, Sukajaya, and Leuwisadeng. This expansion is also projected to impact the capital, specifically reaching Penjaringan in North Jakarta, as well as the West Jakarta districts of Cengkareng, Kalideres, and Kembangan.
"This condition is expected to persist until at least 7:30 a.m.," the BMKG stated in its early morning alert. The agency continues to monitor the situation as the morning commute begins under challenging conditions.
Moderate to heavy rain has soaked the Greater Jakarta region for the last three days. Yesterday, the morning rain lasted throughout the day. Unlike today’s pattern, yesterday’s weather moved and expanded from the southern part of the region, covering a wider area by the afternoon.
On a national scale, the BMKG reports that Indonesia's current weather patterns are being heavily influenced by three major systems: Tropical Cyclone Bakung, alongside cyclone seeds 93S and 95S. These systems are currently aligned across the southern waters, stretching from the western Indian Ocean off the coast of Lampung toward the Arafura Sea.
In its medium-term outlook for December 19-22, the BMKG has placed several regions on high alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall, including Lampung, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, South Sulawesi, Maluku, and the Papua Highlands. While Greater Jakarta remains under close observation, residents in Jakarta, Banten, and West Java are specifically advised to remain cautious of sudden increases in rainfall intensity and potentially damaging strong winds.
