TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The renowned Hollywood director, producer, and actor Rob Reiner, aged 78, was found fatally stabbed alongside his wife, Michelle Singer, 68, at their luxurious home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, December 14, 2025, local time. As reported by People, the couple was allegedly murdered by their son, the screenwriter Nick Reiner, using a kitchen knife.
The murder was witnessed by the couple's daughter, Romy, who immediately alerted the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). Upon the LAFD's arrival at 3:30 p.m. local time, medical assistance was rendered, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The alleged perpetrator, Nick Reiner, had previously spoken publicly about his personal struggles. In a 2016 interview with People, Nick detailed his long battle with drug addiction, which had led to a period of homelessness. His years of addiction reportedly served as the basis for the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he wrote.

California Governor Gavin Newsom posted a statement on X saying that he was "heartbroken" by the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said Reiner's death was a "devastating loss."
"Rob Reiner's contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society, and he has improved countless lives through his creative work and advocacy fighting for social and economic justice," Bass said.
Actor John Cusack, who was the male lead in Reiner's film "The Sure Thing," called the director a "great man."
"Shocked by the death of Rob Reiner - a great man," he said.
