TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian women's doubles pair Rachel Allessya Rose / Meilysa Trias Puspitasari became the first Indonesian representatives to be eliminated on the opening day of the BWF World Tour Super 1000 Indonesia Open 2025 at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
The teammates had to pack their bags after suffering a defeat to the Taiwanese pair Hsieh Pei Shan / Hung En Tzu in three games: 14-21, 21-17, 15-21.
The Indonesian badminton pair managed to stage a comeback in the second game and forced a rubber set, but failed to maintain consistency in the tiebreaker game.
In the first game, the match was tight until the score was tied at 7-7, but the Taiwanese pair started to lead through a series of quick rallies and closed the opening game with a score of 21-14.
Entering the second game, Rachel / Meilysa showed resistance by immediately taking a 5-1 lead and maintaining it until the interval at 11-8. They continued to press on and ended the game with a score of 21-17, opening hope to turn the situation around.
Unfortunately, in the third game, the Indonesian pair again struggled to maintain focus. After briefly being tied at 11-11, they began to fall behind and eventually surrendered 15-21.
This defeat made Rachel / Meilysa the first Indonesian representatives to be eliminated at the Indonesia Open 2025.
Several other Indonesian representatives are scheduled to compete in the next session, including the mixed doubles pair Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu, who are making their debut in the Super 1000 level tournament.
The pair, who won the Taiwan Open 2025, will face the Malaysian representatives Wong Tien Ci/Lim Chiew Sien. Despite having a better ranking, Jafar/Felisha still need to be cautious of their opponents.
In addition to Jafar/Felisha, other Indonesian mixed doubles pairs, Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari, will also start their campaign by facing the Singaporean pair Hee Yong Kai Terry/Jin Yu Jia.
In the men's singles sector, two Indonesian representatives will compete. Jonatan Christie is scheduled to face Jia Heng Jason Teh (Singapore), while Alwi Farhan will face the experienced Indian player H.S. Prannoy.
Indonesian women's singles representative Putri Kusuma Wardani will meet another Indian representative, Malvika Bansod. In addition, Indonesia will also field five pairs in the women's doubles sector, including Apriyani Rahayu/Febi Setianingrum and Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi.
