TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesia's Ministry of Industry recorded the export value of the textile and textile product (TPT) industry at US$4.85 billion in the first half of 2026. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that the sector has also employed 3.8 million workers.

"Although some companies are facing pressure, there are simultaneously new investments and business expansions taking place," Agus said in a written statement on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

To boost performance, the government will provide investment incentives, restructuring programs, credit facilities for labor-intensive industries, export financing from the Indonesian Export Financing Agency, improvements to trade safeguard policies, accelerated implementation of the "Making Indonesia 4.0" initiative, and the adoption of green industry standards.

Another opportunity to be seized is the implementation of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. These regulations are designed to foster global market competitiveness; therefore, TPT industry players must enhance quality, efficiency, and innovation, as well as their ability to meet international standards.

Moreover, the global market evaluates not only the products themselves but also the methods used to manufacture them. "It is important to remember that sustainability is no longer a burden, but rather a competitive advantage in the global arena," Agus remarked.

Data from the Indonesian Textile Association indicates that the export value of textiles and textile products in the first half of 2026 rose by 1.57 percent compared to the same period in 2025, when it stood at US$4.77 billion. However, imports also increased, rising from US$3.41 billion to US$3.58 billion. Consequently, the recorded trade surplus was US$1.27 billion, lower than the US$1.37 billion surplus recorded during the same period the previous year.
