
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said he discussed cooperation in resolving transnational crimes with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra during their meeting. The two countries agreed to collaborate in addressing issues such as online fraud networks, human trafficking, and drug trafficking.
The Head of State thanked the Thai government for assisting Indonesian citizens.
"I would like to express my gratitude for Thailand's decisive steps in addressing these issues and helping Indonesia repatriate its affected citizens," said Prabowo at the Government House, Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday, May 19, 2025, as quoted by the presidential communication team.
Additionally, the two countries agreed to strengthen their collaboration in maritime security and counterterrorism efforts, as well as their cooperation in cybersecurity. They also agreed to increase joint military exercises and defense industry cooperation.
"We will leverage platforms such as the High-Level Committee and the Annual Security Dialogue," said the Chairperson of the Gerindra Party. Prabowo stated that economic cooperation was also discussed at the meeting. So far, the two countries have achieved bilateral trade worth up to US$18 billion and have agreed to increase it.
The two countries also agreed to enhance the development and standardization of halal industries and the digital economy in fintech, e-commerce, and infrastructure. They are also committed to organizing the First Joint Trade Commission shortly and strengthening cooperation between Thai investment institutions and Danantara, an Indonesian investment management institution.
Regarding food, Prabowo stated that both countries agreed to focus on strengthening food supply chain resilience. They will undertake a joint venture in food management and storage.
Meanwhile, in terms of energy resilience, both countries are opening opportunities for entities from Thailand to participate in Indonesia's energy sector. They have also agreed to reopen the Indonesia-Thailand Energy Forum this year.
On the same occasion, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra stated that the two countries would work together to combat human trafficking and illegal gambling. Furthermore, they agreed to enhance bilateral investment and tourism.
"We also agree to increase investment from both countries. We will assign relevant agencies to explore further investment opportunities and encourage the private sector to invest more," she said.
President Prabowo Subianto is on an official visit to Thailand on Monday, May 19, 2025.
After meeting with the Thai Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prabowo is scheduled to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that reflects both parties' commitment to growing their partnership. President Prabowo's official visit to Thailand will conclude with a luncheon at the Government House.
