TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As of March 2025, Indonesia's revenue from the customs and excise sector reached Rp77.5 trillion, an increase of 9.6 percent compared to last year. The Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Finance Ministry reported that the amount has reached 25.7 percent of the State Budget (APBN) target.
Total revenue is collected from import and export duties and excise taxes. "This growth is fueled by significant increases in export duties and excise revenue," said Head of the Public Relations and Extension Subdirectorate of Customs and Excise, Budi Prasetiyo, in an official statement quoted on Friday, May 16, 2025.
According to Budi, the export duties recorded a revenue of Rp8.8 trillion, a 110.6 percent yearly increase. This surge was mostly driven by revenue from palm oil products reaching Rp7.9 trillion, driven by the increase in global crude palm oil (CPO) prices to US$95 per metric ton.
The revenue also came from the realization of copper concentrate export duties amounting to Rp807.7 billion, in line with the issuance of the export policy. Meanwhile, import duties experienced a 5.8 percent (yoy) decrease to Rp11.3 trillion.
Budi added that the decrease in state revenue from import duties was influenced by a decrease in the effective tariff due to the increasing utilization of free trade agreements (FTA). Also, a decrease in import duties on strategic commodities such as rice, sugar, and motor vehicles.
In addition to revenue from the customs sector, excise revenue also showed positive growth, reaching Rp57.4 trillion, an increase of 5.3 percent (yoy). The largest contribution was excise revenue from tobacco products (HT), amounting to Rp55.7 trillion, growing by 5.6 percent (yoy). This performance was also supported by revenue from excise on beverages containing ethyl alcohol (MMEA), reaching Rp1.6 trillion, and revenue from ethyl alcohol (EA) excise reaching Rp35.8 billion.
