Jakarta Rolls Out Scholarships Covering Undergraduate to Doctoral Programs

1 day ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government is expanding the Jakarta Excellent Student Card (KJMU) scholarship program. The program now includes doctoral (S3) scholarships.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said that KJMU previously only applied to undergraduate students (S1) with a certain cumulative grade point average (GPA). "Previously, KJMU only covered up to S1, but now we have expanded it to include S2 (master's degree) and S3 for students with a good GPA," said Pramono in a written statement on Friday, May 30, 2025.

Pramono stated that KJMU recipients in Jakarta will receive a monthly living allowance of Rp750,000. Meanwhile, the Jakarta Provincial Government will pay the university directly for tuition fees each semester. He said this scheme aims to enable students to focus on studying and completing their education without worrying about tuition fees.

According to Pramono, the provisions for universities eligible to accept KJMU have also been expanded. "Currently, KJMU can be used by any university, regardless of its accreditation level (A, B, or C). It is not limited to A-accredited universities only," said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle politician.

He claimed that this policy is one way to address economic disparities in Jakarta. "Why is it done? To break the line of misfortune," said Pramono.

Meanwhile, Head of the Jakarta Education Agency Nahdiana announced that the number of KJMU recipients in Jakarta is currently 16,979 students. "With a total assistance of Rp9 million per semester per student, including Rp750,000 per month," said Nahdiana.

Nahdiana reports that scholarship funds for 14,745 students were deposited into recipients' accounts by the end of May 2025. Conversely, 2,129 scholarship recipients are in the process of opening accounts and printing ATM cards to receive the KJMU funds.

Nahdiana announced that there are no fees involved in the KJMU registration process. "We emphasize that the entire KJMU registration process is free of charge," said Nahdiana.
