TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto held a telephone conversation with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (MBS), on Wednesday night, December 10, 2025.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya confirmed that MBS expressed his full support and offered sincere condolences to President Prabowo and the Indonesian people regarding the recent Sumatra disaster.
"Especially to the people affected by the disaster. Indonesia is a great country, and its leader is a strong President in facing any situation," Teddy quoted the Crown Prince as saying, citing a statement from the official @sekretariat.kabinet Instagram account on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Teddy added that President Prabowo and MBS also discussed the continuation of the plan to develop the Hajj Village. The conversation covered key aspects such as determining the ideal location, the construction process, and the facilities to be prepared for Indonesian pilgrims.
Sumatra Disaster: Updated Casualty Figures
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the death toll from the Sumatra floods has tragically neared 1,000. According to the emergency flood and landslide geoportal dashboard for the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, the BNPB recorded 990 fatalities as of Thursday, December 11, 2025.
The breakdown of the fatalities is as follows: Aceh (407 people), North Sumatra (343), and West Sumatra (240). This total is an increase from the 969 deaths reported by the BNPB on the previous day, December 10, 2025.
Meanwhile, the number of missing persons across the three provinces has gradually decreased from 262 to 222 people. North Sumatra has the highest count of missing persons (98), followed by West Sumatra (93), and Aceh (31). The total number of injured individuals in the three provinces has reached more than 5,400 people.
Air Marshal Mohammad Syafii, Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), stated that the search for victims entering the second week following the disaster faces significant field challenges. Specifically, the identification of victims declared missing is becoming increasingly difficult due to changes in body structure over time.
"At present, the problem faced in the field is that with a period of more than 10 days, most of the victims found have changed in structure," Syafii explained during a working meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Monday, December 8, 2025.
