TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto returned directly to inspect flood-affected areas in Sumatra immediately after concluding his official trips to Pakistan and Russia. He arrived at Kualanamu Airport in Deli Serdang Regency on board the Garuda Indonesia-1 presidential plane on Friday, December 12, 2025. This marks Prabowo's third visit to the disaster-stricken provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

As stated in the official release from the Presidential Secretariat, the President’s itinerary for Friday morning includes revisiting several disaster-hit locations. The visit is intended to check on the condition of refugee shelters, logistic distribution, health services, and the operational readiness of key agencies, including the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and local governments.

Prabowo aims to ensure that the entire on-the-ground handling process is effective and humane. This encompasses addressing essential needs such as food and health services, as well as accelerating the repair of vital infrastructure like bridges, roads, embankments, and communication networks.

During a limited meeting on Sunday, December 7, 2025, concerning the handling and recovery efforts for the disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, Prabowo previously emphasized that the safety of the people must be the highest priority. Regarding the distribution of aid, the head of state stressed the importance of delivering the basic needs of affected communities in a timely manner.

"Don't let the people's needs go unmet. I believe medicines should be prioritized immediately. All needs, such as medicines, must be provided right away," Prabowo stated during the meeting held in Aceh.

Rising Fatality Count and Missing Persons

The number of fatalities resulting from the Sumatra floods has tragically reached 1,000. Data recorded by the BNPB's emergency flood and landslides geoportal dashboard for Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra reported the death toll at 990 people as of Thursday, December 11, 2025.

The highest number of fatalities was recorded in Aceh (407 people), followed by North Sumatra (343), and West Sumatra (240). This total is an increase from the 969 deaths reported by the BNPB on December 10, 2025.

Meanwhile, the number of missing persons across the three provinces has gradually decreased from 262 to 222 people since the previous day. The majority of missing individuals are in North Sumatra (98), followed by West Sumatra (93), and Aceh (31). The total number of injured persons across the three provinces has reached more than 5,400.
