TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto claims to lead based on facts. He states that he acknowledges existing facts, even those that are unpleasant to hear.
Prabowo urged his administration to always base itself on facts. "I prefer to lead based on facts—facts, reality, and the actual situation," Prabowo said while addressing researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
He remarked that facing facts or reality can sometimes be unpleasant. However, Prabowo stated that the courage to confront facts—even when they are disagreeable—is the first step toward finding the right solution.
According to him, a nation will not progress if it continues to complain. "One thing I say: don't complain, don't look for scapegoats, because that won't help," he said.
Therefore, Prabowo claims his government will use facts, science, and mathematics as the foundation for finding solutions to the nation's various challenges. He wants all problems to be approached scientifically and rationally.
The Gerindra Party chair stated that any approach other than rational, scientific, and mathematical would be flawed. "Reality is science, reality is mathematics. If we approach reality with any other approach, we're entering a different realm," he said.
President Prabowo invited hundreds of BRIN researchers to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. The researchers presented their innovations to Prabowo and his ministers at an exhibition held in the palace's central courtyard.
"I deliberately invited you to the Palace because I wanted to see, to get an idea of the results you have achieved at BRIN," said Prabowo.
Prabowo hopes to visit the researchers' campuses and workplaces. He stated that coordination is crucial because a nation's development is determined by its ability to master science and technology.
At the exhibition at the Palace, BRIN presented 15 booths showcasing research and innovations representing various technology clusters. The innovations on display covered aerospace and space technology, water security, nuclear power, energy and minerals, and the environment and waste management.
Additionally, there are innovations in housing and disaster management, health, transportation, food and agriculture, education, fisheries, defense and security, and cultural heritage preservation. Some researchers are also developing technology to support the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.
