TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar on Thursday closed flat at Rp17,877 per US dollar, from the previous close at Rp17,877.

Woori Bank analyst Rully Nova stated that the rupiah moved flat as the euphoria following the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) release faded.

Bank Indonesia's Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) also weakened today to Rp17,882 per US dollar from Rp17,876 previously.

"The rupiah closed stable in today's trading, largely due to the fading euphoria surrounding the MSCI release and market players' focus on the candidate for Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia," he said on Thursday, as quoted by ANTARA.

Global index provider MSCI Inc announced the MSCI Equity Indexes August 2026 Index Review on August 12, 2026, Central European Summer Time (CEST), with all changes taking effect at the close of trading on August 31, 2026, and effective September 1, 2026.

MSCI announced that it removed two Indonesian stocks from the MSCI Global Standard Index, and that no Indonesian stocks were included in the index. In addition, MSCI also made adjustments to the MSCI Global Small Cap Index category for Indonesian stocks, including one stock and removing nine stocks from the index.

Meanwhile, the government has sent a Presidential Letter (Surpres) to fill the position of Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI). The government has proposed Aida S. Budiman for Senior Deputy Governor, while two other names have been proposed for Deputy Governor: Solikin M. Juhro and M. Anwar Bashori.

"Globally, it's still related to developments in the Middle East conflict, with no breakthrough in negotiations between the US and Iran, even though the index has stabilized below 100 and oil prices are starting to subside," Rully said.
