TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian men's volleyball team failed to seize the gold medal at the SEA Games 2025 after being defeated by the host team, Thailand, in the final match held at the Indoor Stadium Huamark, Bangkok, on Friday, December 19, 2025.
The match was intense, lasting for five sets. Thailand took the lead in the first set, but Indonesia managed to catch up in the second set, bringing the score to a tie. Subsequently, the hosting team reclaimed the lead in the third set.
The fourth set was thrilling, with Thailand coming close to winning the final match in four sets. But Rivan Nurmulki and his teammates did not give up without a worthwhile fight. They managed to win the fourth set, extending the game.
During the final set, the team led by Jeff Jian Jie was left trailing by several points and faced difficulty in closing the gap. The match concluded with a score of 3-2 (20-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23, 12-15) in favor of Thailand.
This result led to Indonesia's failure to defend its SEA Games winning streak after being hailed as victors thrice in a row. This time, they secured a silver medal.
Previously, the women's team secured a bronze medal by defeating the Philippines 3-1 (28-26, 13-25, 30-28, 26-24) in the match for third place on Monday, December 15.
For Thailand, the victory over Indonesia in the final match brought them back to securing the gold medal, after last winning the championship in 2017. The host team also succeeded in winning two gold medals because the women's team also became champions by defeating Vietnam 3-2 (19-25, 25-13, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23).
