Semarang's Tanjung Emas Port Flooded After Seawall Breaks

5 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, SemarangFlooding from the sea submerged areas of Tanjung Emas Port in Semarang, Central Java, after a section of the seawall collapsed on Friday afternoon, May 23, 2025, around 2:00 PM. Workers were subsequently evacuated from the affected port area.

The seawall's collapse caused seawater to surge inland, leading to floods approximately 50 centimeters deep near Post 1 of Tanjung Emas Port. Some workers were observed leaving the port, with several pushing their motorcycles through the rising water.

Electricity around Post 1 of Tanjung Emas Port was also shut off, plunging the flooded area into darkness. "We have evacuated the workers from the incident location and ensured there are no casualties," stated Hardianto, General Manager of Pelindo Tanjung Emas Branch.

According to Hardianto, the seawall collapsed due to the immense pressure of seawater combined with extreme weather conditions. Pelindo's emergency response team swiftly initiated mitigation measures. "This includes securing the affected area and installing temporary barriers to control the water flow," Hardianto explained.

Despite the flooding, Hardianto confirmed that services at Tanjung Emas Port remained unaffected. "Loading and unloading activities and passenger services at Tanjung Emas Port are currently running normally without any obstacles," he affirmed.
