TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Defense expresses its condolences for the passing of two manager hopefuls for Village Cooperatives and the Red and White Fishers' Village. The two were participating in basic military training under the Bachelor of Indonesian Development Drivers (SPPI) Program held at TNI educational units.
Head of Defense Information Bureau Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait said the two SPPI participants who passed away were Anisa Muyassaroh and Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq.
Anisa passed away while undergoing training at a military educational unit Satdik Dodikjur Rindam VI/Mulawarman Balikpapan. She experienced health problems on June 18, 2026, and had received medical treatment at the unit's health facility before being referred to the hospital.
"Based on medical information, she was declared dead due to heat stroke," said Rico in a written statement on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
Meanwhile, Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq was undergoing training at Satdik Puslatpur Kodiklatad Baturaja. His health condition deteriorated on June 17, 2026, and he had received medical treatment by unit health personnel before being referred to the hospital.
"Based on medical information, he was declared dead due to cardiac arrest," Rico said.
Rico affirmed that both participants had undergone medical checkups as one of the requirements to be declared eligible for the training.
He stated that the Ministry of Defense and the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) had provided support to the families of the deceased, and ensured that all handling processes were carried out in accordance with applicable procedures.
Following this incident, the Ministry of Defense is working with the program's selection committee and education organizers to evaluate the training program. This includes health selection mechanisms, medical supervision, handling of participants with special health conditions, as well as communication and reporting systems.
Rico explained that the SPPI program is part of the government's effort to prepare human resources with discipline, integrity, leadership, managerial ability, and a spirit of dedication to support national development through the village cooperative and fishers' village programs.
"The participants' involvement in this program is voluntary in accordance with the established selection mechanism," said Rico.
The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that the safety and health of the participants are top priorities.
The SPPI training for village cooperatives and fishers' village manager hopefuls kicked off on June 17, 2026. The military training will last for 45 days until July 31, 2026.
A total of 35,476 prospective managers are participating in this training, with 30,000 for Red and White Village Cooperatives and 5,476 for the Red and White Fishers' Villages.
