TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The German national team secured their place in the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup, which will begin in the Round of 32, after their second victory on Sunday.
Germany's 2-1 victory against Ivory Coast at Toronto Stadium came after substitute Deniz Undav (69', 90+4') scored twice to overturn a first-half goal deficit from Frank Kessie (30').
These three points secured Germany's place in the Round of 32, joining Mexico and the United States.
With six points, Germany also secured its place in the knockout stages as Group E winners, surpassing the other three teams, including Ivory Coast, who have three points in second place due to their head-to-head record.
Ecuador is in third place, while Curacao is in fourth place, with both teams tied on one point.
This point came after the two teams played out a 0-0 draw at Kansas City Stadium on Sunday, with Curacao taking pride in their first point in the World Cup as a debutant.
From Group F, the Netherlands' resounding 5-1 victory over Sweden at Houston Stadium on Sunday put them top of Group F with four points.
The five goals scored by Brian Brobbey (5', 17'), Cody Gakpo (47', 54'), and Crysencio Summerville (89') were only answered by a single goal from Anthony Elanga (59'), with the Dutch now having a strong chance of qualifying for the knockout stage as group winners.
In another match, Japan's 4-0 victory over Tunisia put the Samurai Blue in second place with four points, trailing only the Netherlands at the top of the table on goal difference.
The four goals for Hajime Moriyasu's side were scored by Daichi Kamada (4'), Ayase Ueda (31', 83'), and Junya Ito (69').
Sweden finished third in Group F with three points, while Tunisia finished bottom of the group with no points, making them the third team eliminated from the 2026 World Cup after Haiti and Turkey.
