TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) searched the Indonesian Ombudsman building in connection with alleged obstruction of investigation and prosecution in a cooking oil corruption case involving three corporations.
The search was carried out by investigators from the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus).
"It's true (the search took place)," said Anang Supriatna, Head of the Attorney General's Legal Information Center, in Jakarta on Monday.
In addition to the Ombudsman building, investigators also searched the home of one of the Ombudsman commissioners. However, he did not reveal the identity of the commissioner.
He stated that the case relates to convict Marcella Santoso and three corporations: the Wilmar Group, Permata Hijau Group, and Musim Mas Group.
Furthermore, it is also related to a civil lawsuit filed by the three corporations with the State Administrative Court (PTUN). The Ombudsman is believed to have provided recommendations to strengthen the lawsuit.
Marcella Santoso was found guilty of bribery in exchange for acquittal in a corruption case involving the granting of crude palm oil (CPO) export facilities and money laundering in 2025.
She was found guilty of bribery of US$4 million (equivalent to Rp60 billion) to the judge handling the CPO case and of committing US$2 million in money laundering in the case, each in collaboration with attorney Ariyanto.
In the bribery case, the two, along with Wahyu Gunawan, a junior civil clerk at the North Jakarta District Court, acted as intermediaries for the Wilmar team to provide bribes to suspect Muhammad Arif Nuryanta, the then-Deputy Chief Justice of the Central Jakarta District Court.
Arif then distributed the bribes to three judges serving as the panel of judges in the CPO case: Djuyamto, Agam Syarif Baharuddin, and Ali Muhtarom, with the aim of facilitating the acquittal of the three corporations.
