TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Climatology Station of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for West Java has issued an early warning about extreme weather due to the movement of Cyclone 93S. A wind vortex has been detected in the Indian Ocean south of East Java. It is predicted to increase rainfall and cause strong winds from December 18 to 25, 2025.

The Head of Geophysics Station BMKG Bandung, Teguh Rahayu, urges West Java residents to exercise caution during this period. He stated, "It is hoped that proactive measures can be taken to ensure that daily activities continue to run safely and smoothly," in an official statement on Friday, December 19, 2025.

Referring to BMKG, some areas in the regencies of Bogor, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Bandung, West Bandung, and Garut are expected to experience frequent moderate to heavy rainfall. Similar weather is also expected in the regencies of Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Banjar, and Pangandaran.

According to BMKG's analysis of atmospheric dynamics, there is an increase in the growth of rain clouds due to Tropical Cyclone 93S. This effect is reinforced by the low-frequency wave that also passes through West Java. Rahayu mentioned that the local atmosphere's unstable and moist conditions from the lower to upper layers support the growth of convective clouds, resulting in moderate to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by wind and lightning.

The wind in the northern part of West Java is moving from the southwest to the northwest at a speed of 15-30 knots, while its speed is slightly lower in the southern region, at around 10-25 knots.

The highest wind speed observed in the northern and southern waters of West Java may also contribute to high waves. An increase in sea waves up to 1.25-2.5 meters is potentially expected in the waters of Subang, Indramayu, Cirebon, Sukabumi, Garut, Cianjur, Tasikmalaya, and Pangandaran.
