TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Defense Donny Ermawan Taufanto hosted University of Indonesia (UI) Rector Heri Hermansyah at the Ministry of Defense office in Jakarta on Thursday, June 18, 2026. Their discussion centered on a collaborative initiative to establish special international classes at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) for the ministry.
According to the Defense Ministry's official release, the meeting focused on partnerships aimed at bolstering the capacity and expertise of human resources within both the Ministry of Defense and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). This collaboration will be implemented through educational programs across multiple faculties at the University of Indonesia.
Donny emphasized that strengthening human resource quality is crucial as a foundation for national defense development. In his view, forging closer ties with academic institutions is a step forward in achieving this goal.
"[This is vital] to produce superior, competent, and capable defense human resources to address increasingly complex strategic challenges," he said in the official statement on Friday, June 19, 2026.
The meeting also touched upon broadening the scope of cooperation previously outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Defense and the University of Indonesia. However, the ministry did not disclose further details regarding the developments of this partnership.
Additionally, both parties explored the inclusion of other faculties aligned with the Ministry of Defense's programs, including the plan to launch the special international classes at FISIP UI.
The Deputy Defense Minister was accompanied at the meeting by the Commander of the National Air Defense Command (Pangkohanudnas), the Director General of Defense Potential, and the Deputy for Geopolitical Affairs of the National Defense Council (DPN).
