TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The bridge on Jalan Bandung has been submerged by the overflowing Pesanggrahan River, cutting off access between the Cinere District in Depok and Pondok Cabe in South Tangerang on Monday, April 20, 2026.

Sutikno Hadi Prayitno, a 48-year-old local resident, noted that the flooding at the Jalan Bandung bridge was triggered by high-intensity rainfall in the upstream areas of Bogor Regency.

"The current flooding began yesterday afternoon, Sunday, April 19, due to heavy rain around the time of the Isya prayer. I happened to be traveling from Cinere to Citayam; the rain at the Citayam intersection was unexpectedly heavy, and it took quite a while to reach my destination at Citayam Station," Sutikno said at the scene on Monday.

According to him, the water level typically does not rise onto the bridge unless there is significant upstream rain, even when it rains heavily within the Cinere area itself. "This route is crowded because it is a vital shortcut; detouring from here to reach Cinere Mas adds a long distance," he explained.

During such floods, Sutikno continued, the route becomes completely impassable as the bridge is submerged by more than a meter of water. Motorists seeking alternative routes face an additional 30 minutes of travel time.

"It is much faster to pass through here, and there is certainly no congestion. If you take the other way past Cinere Mall, the morning traffic congestion is unbearable," he said.

The route is frequently blocked because the bridge is positioned too low, leaving it vulnerable whenever the Pesanggrahan River swells. "We are requesting that the bridge be raised. This was actually promised a long time ago, not just recently," Sutikno remarked.

As of 11:45 a.m., the Pesanggrahan River remains at flood levels, and the route remains closed to all two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles.
