Gerindra Urges Lawyer Not to Drag Prabowo Into Febrie Adriansyah's Corruption Case

19 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Gerindra Party has urged Hotman Paris Hutapea, the lawyer of former young attorney general for special criminal cases Febrie Adriansyah, not to involve Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in the alleged corruption case. Hotman had previously mentioned Prabowo's name in a press conference to defend his client.

The Chair of the Central Board of Gerindra, Bambang Haryadi, regrets Hotman's statement linking Febrie's case to President Prabowo. "This is very incorrect and contrary to President Prabowo's commitment to fighting corruption," said Bambang in his statement on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

According to Bambang, Prabowo does not discriminate in law enforcement. He mentioned that in party activities, Prabowo always asserts that he will not protect members who behave disgracefully and are involved in corruption.

Bambang claimed that this statement has also been proven. "It's proven; several regional leaders who violated the law and had affiliations with Gerindra were still prosecuted," said the Deputy Chair of the XII Commission of the People's Representative Council (DPR).

The Secretary of the Gerindra Party Faction in the DPR also asks Hotman Paris not to mention Prabowo when defending his client who is embroiled in an alleged corruption case. "President Prabowo has never interfered in law enforcement," said Bambang.

Hotman had previously stated that the police did not seek permission from President Prabowo Subianto when designating his client, Febrie Adriansyah, as a suspect in the Asabri case. "Imagine the pride of the president suddenly criminalized without even saying goodbye to the president," said Hotman on Friday, July 18, 2026.

Hotman denied all allegations against his client, which led to Febrie being designated as a suspect in the Asabri case handled by the public prosecutor's office. He also questioned the process of designating Febrie as a suspect, which he considered to violate the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) because Febrie was not called in for questioning before being designated as a suspect.

According to Hotman, when serving as the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes and the Executive Chair of the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force (Satgas PKH), Febrie had made significant contributions in non-tax state revenue collection. He claimed that the former Deputy Attorney General was a source of pride for President Prabowo because through the law enforcement of the Satgas PKH, which he led, Rp300 trillion was obtained in one year and deposited to the state.

In addition, there was a return of state losses amounting to Rp130 trillion. "It's already Rp430 trillion returned, and that's a source of pride for the president," said Hotman. Febrie served as the Executive Chairman of the Satgas PKH due to the position attached to him as Deputy Attorney General, as stated in Presidential Decree Number 5 of 2025.

In the Asabri case, the police implicated Febrie Adriansyah under Article 12 B of the Law on Corruption Crimes and Article 3, Article 4 of the Law on Money Laundering Crimes jo Article 607 Paragraph 1 letters a and b of the Criminal Code.
