TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Pertamina Patra Niaga has scrapped a plan requiring motorists to present their Vehicle Registration Certificate (STNK) when purchasing subsidized fuel at gas stations (SPBU). The policy was initially slated for implementation across southern Sumatra.

"We requested Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Southern Sumatra to cancel the implementation of this mechanism," said Kitty Andhora, VP Corporate Communication of Pertamina Patra Niaga, in a statement on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Kitty noted that the plan was revoked following public backlash and negative responses. The company apologized for the inconvenience and confusion generated by the announcement.

"Every policy related to fuel distribution that affects the public will be coordinated with regulators, particularly BPH Migas, local governments, and relevant stakeholders," she said.

Kitty emphasized that Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to tighten oversight to ensure subsidized fuel reaches its targeted beneficiaries. From January to September 3, 2026, the company provided guidance to more than 900 gas stations across its operational regions.

In addition, Kitty stated that the company will impose penalties on gas stations proven to have violated regulations. Sanctions can range from written warnings and supply suspensions to the termination of business relationships.

The company is also collaborating with law enforcement agencies to crack down on the misuse of subsidized fuel. "Oversight is additionally maintained through the Subsidized Fuel QR Code on the MyPertamina application," Kitty said.
