TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sworn in by President Prabowo Subianto as Minister of Environment on Monday, April 27, 2026, Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat had known for about two months that he would enter the Cabinet. The Chair of the All-Indonesian Workers Union Confederation (KSPSI) said he received signals a few days before Idul Fitri—around the third week of March—2026 that he would become a minister.
Jumhur said the President had spoken with him via video call. The teleconference initially discussed plans for Labor Day, which falls on May 1. Jumhur reported that several labor unions would attend a workers’ festival at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta. He invited the President to attend the celebration.
Prabowo then revealed he was planning a Cabinet reshuffle and offered Jumhur a post. “I was asked not to commit corruption if I became a minister,” Jumhur told Tempo on Monday, April 27, 2026, in a WhatsApp message hours before his inauguration.
The offer to become a minister lingered for nearly two months as Prabowo did not immediately proceed with a reshuffle. Jumhur’s appointment became clear on Thursday, April 23—four days before the swearing-in—when he received an invitation from State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi to come to the State Palace. He was asked to sign a document containing an integrity pact.
