TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian men's national futsal team jumped from 24th to 14th place in the world, according to the latest FIFA data published on Friday.
According to the FIFA website, as quoted by ANTARA, Indonesia places fourth in Asia with 1,269.82 points, below Iran (1,507.71 points), Thailand (1,354.78 points), and Japan (1,315.11 points).
One of the factors that contributed to Indonesia's improved ranking was the Garuda squad's success in advancing to the final of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup.
In that tournament, the Indonesian men's national futsal team, coached by Hector Souto, defeated strong teams such as Vietnam (currently ranked 22nd in the world) and Japan. In the final match, Indonesia lost to Iran in a penalty shootout, with a final score of 5-5 (4-5). Then, Indonesia also advanced to the final of the 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship, where they lost 1-2 to hosts Thailand.
Meanwhile, Brazil, the 2026 Copa America Futsal champion, holds the top spot in the FIFA rankings for men's national futsal teams. Meanwhile, Portugal, Spain, Argentina, and Iran rank second through fifth in FIFA positions.
Similar to men's futsal, Brazil tops the latest FIFA women's rankings, followed by Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Italy, which complete the top five.
The Indonesian women's national futsal team itself dropped three places in the latest edition, namely from 18th to 21st, with 1,033.44 points. In Asia, the Indonesian futsal Srikandi (Srikandi futsal) is in seventh place, just below China. The top five Asian teams, in order, are Japan, Thailand, Iran, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
