TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has confirmed that the reactivation of the Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS) is targeted for completion in 2026, following a comprehensive evaluation process.

"Reactivation will certainly proceed once everything is finalized; adjustments will also be made because the evaluation is comprehensive—covering not just the system itself, but also policy aspects. While we cannot yet provide an exact timeline for the reactivation, it will definitely take place this year," said Tita Ayuditya Surya, Head of the Game Ecosystem Development Team at the Ministry of Communication, during a press interview in Jakarta on Saturday.

Tita explained that following the postponement of the IGRS implementation—which began in April 2026—the Ministry conducted a thorough evaluation involving various stakeholders from the gaming industry and parties likely to be affected by the policy.

Regarding industry associations, the Indonesian Games Association (AGI), for instance, has been involved in the evaluation process from the very beginning.

In terms of government bodies, the Ministry of Creative Economy (Kemenekraf) is involved—given that gaming is a sub-sector of the creative economy—alongside the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA).

Tita added that representatives from parent communities, acting on behalf of the general public, are also participating in the IGRS evaluation process, acknowledging the significant impact this game classification system will have on children and people in general who play games.

To ensure the system functions effectively and meets public needs post-evaluation, Kemkomdigi is conducting a careful and comprehensive assessment.

News regarding the postponement of the IGRS implementation was previously announced in April 2026.

On Friday, April 17, 2026, it was reported that the implementation of the age-based game classification system was postponed after public scrutiny arose regarding the incorrect display of IGRS ratings on the Steam distribution platform.

Consequently, to resolve the matter properly, Kemkomdigi established a special team to investigate the issue. The investigation team is examining every aspect of the IGRS implementation, ranging from the system and processes to its governance.

During the IGRS suspension, Kemkomdigi has assured that it will not block or restrict access to unrated games circulating in Indonesia.
