Indonesian Govt Discloses Uncertified Chinese Goods Circulating on TikTok

5 hours ago 3

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Trade Ministry has seized millions of Chinese goods imported by PT Asiaalum Trading Indonesia. The goods were seized because they did not meet Indonesian regulatory standards. Trade Minister Budi Santoso said, "As a follow-up, we will investigate the business actors or importers further." This statement was made during a press conference session at the storage warehouse in Cikupa, Tangerang Regency, on Thursday, May 22, 2025.

Budi stated that the seizure occurred after monitoring and observing social media, particularly the TikTok platform. He explained that many sellers use the platform to promote and distribute products. "Based on observations and information from the public and relevant ministries and agencies, we conducted monitoring and seizures," he said.

The seizure of the goods was carried out because the products did not have the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) Product Use Certificate (SPPT) or their validity period had expired, did not have a goods registration number (NPB), did not use Indonesian language labels, did not have a manual book or warranty card, did not have a health, safety, security, and environmental (K3L) registration number, and did not have importation documents for the goods. Additionally, the company also imported prohibited items. "In other words, they are not allowed to be imported, yet they were," he said.

He stated that 1,680,047 seized items were estimated to be worth Rp18,853,531,107.

The goods consisted of 68,256 units of miniature circuit breakers (MCBs), electric grinders, electric drills, electric saws, and electric planers totaling 9,763 units, 26 vacuum cleaners, 600,000 pairs of gloves, 77 pairs of two-handled scissors, 66 axes, 578 pieces of iron rulers or UTTP, 997,269 bolts and nuts in various sizes, and 4,215 shackles.

He mentioned that several domestic regulations had been violated regarding the circulation of these goods, such as the Consumer Protection Law and Government Regulation Number 29 of 2021 on the Implementation of Trade Affairs.

He stated that the Ministry will conduct further investigations into the business actors or importers. They are required to complete the necessary documents and data. "We are still monitoring these goods until the document requirements are met," he said.

If proven to produce goods that do not comply with the regulations, Budi will prohibit the company from distributing the goods. Furthermore, he also threatened to revoke the company's permit. "They are not allowed to engage in similar activities."

He also instructed the company to withdraw non-compliant goods circulated in the market.
