TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said the police institution will continue supporting the government's food security program by expanding Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), or MBG kitchens, and accelerating corn cultivation initiatives.
"The President has instructed us to accelerate the achievement of food and energy self-sufficiency," Sigit said during the 80th Bhayangkara Day commemoration at the Mobile Brigade Training Unit complex in Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Sigit said the police are collaborating with state-owned bank associations to help farmers access People's Business Credit (KUR) financing. The institution is also promoting corn cultivation, with a potential planting area of 1.37 million hectares.
He claimed that from 2025 until the second quarter of 2026, police-supported corn harvests reached 5.7 million tons.
In addition to corn, the police are also supporting garlic cultivation among 30 farmer groups in Sembalun, West Nusa Tenggara. The program has reportedly produced 18,960 tons of garlic from 948 hectares of land.
Free meal kitchen expansion
For the government's Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program, Sigit said the police are targeting the construction of 1,500 SPPGs across Indonesia throughout 2026.
By June 2026, he said 1,415 SPPGs had been established, with 828 already operational, 227 in the operational preparation stage, and 360 still under construction, including 33 facilities in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.
"All of these SPPGs are projected to serve 3.5 million beneficiaries and employ 70,700 workers," Sigit said.
Sigit also told President Prabowo Subianto that police-operated SPPGs had obtained 348 sanitation certificates, 146 halal product assurance certificates, and 285 water laboratory test certificates. The program has also trained 305 chefs to ensure food quality and safety standards.
The police have additionally compiled the Nusantara Bhayangkara Taste book, which contains 80 menus designed to expand food variety while maintaining nutritional standards.
