TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday that Tehran is in a “full-scale war” and that the government is working to overcome the difficulties facing the country.

“We are in a full-scale economic, military, and security war,” Pezeshkian said in a televised speech quoted by the state-run IRNA news agency, as quoted from Anadolu.

He said the government is “ashamed” that the economic problems persist.

Trump easily says that they will impose the most crushing or the most terrible sanctions on Iran,” Pezeshkian said, referring to US President Donald Trump.

He added that Tehran is “standing firm” and strives to serve the Iranian people amid what he called an “unequal war.”

“The enemy had assessed that if Iran falls, it will become Venezuela. Not only did it not happen, but it became a power that amazed the world with its resistance, solidarity and cohesion," the president asserted.

He also said Iran is working "with all our might to avoid division, conflicts and egos.”

Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding in June through the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar, ending hostilities that began in February and agreeing to continue negotiations toward a final agreement.

However, the negotiations have since stalled due to disagreements over the implementation of the deal and navigation arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil and gas exports.
