Iran Warns of 'Crushing Response' if US Agreement Is Violated

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Friday warned that Tehran would respond forcefully if the recently signed agreement with the United States is violated or if what he described as excessive demands are imposed on Iran.

In a post on X, Ghalibaf said Iran would not hesitate to retaliate should the other side fail to honor its commitments.

"In the event of any breach of commitment, violation of the agreement, or excessive demands by the other side, we have no hesitation in delivering a crushing response to the enemy," he wrote.

He also referred to the recent conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, warning against any repeat of hostilities.

"They were slapped once in the war; if they choose to follow the same path again, they will receive an even harsher slap," Ghalibaf said.

The parliamentary speaker added that Iranian authorities are focused on implementing the framework outlined by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. He said their responsibility is "to pursue the realization of the conditions and provisions of the agreement" and stressed that they are acting in accordance with that directive.

Agreement Signed by Washington and Tehran

Ghalibaf's remarks came two days after U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian electronically signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding on June 17.

The memorandum is intended to pave the way for ending the conflict launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28 and to open a broader diplomatic process between Washington and Tehran.

Under the agreement, the two sides will enter a 60-day negotiation period, with the option of an extension, aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement covering Iran's nuclear program and international sanctions imposed on the country.

The memorandum is also expected to serve as a framework for implementing a phased ceasefire and advancing discussions on broader regional security issues.
