TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has urged the public, particularly residents in Jakarta, Banten, Lampung, and areas surrounding the Sunda Strait, to remain calm and heighten vigilance following the eruptive activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.
In a statement released in Jakarta on Sunday, September 6, the President called on citizens to follow all instructions from government authorities and field officers and refrain from approaching Mount Anak Krakatau. He also asked the public to comply strictly with danger zone restrictions and safety perimeters established by the authorities.
"To our brothers and sisters in Jakarta, Banten, Lampung, and the areas surrounding the Sunda Strait, please remain calm, increase your vigilance, and follow all directions from the government and officers in the field. Do not approach the Mount Anak Krakatau area, and fully comply with the danger zones and safety limits established by authorities," the President said.
He stated that the government continues to closely monitor developments surrounding Mount Anak Krakatau and has been receiving regular updates from relevant agencies.
He added that he has directed the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), regional governments, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Transportation, and other related ministries and institutions to maintain continuous oversight of the situation.
Furthermore, all government bodies have been instructed to ensure full operational readiness and provide necessary protection and assistance to the public.
Addressing those specifically impacted by volcanic ash, Prabowo urged the public to protect their health by wearing masks or respiratory protection.
Residents were also advised to minimize outdoor activities if ashfall becomes heavy and to follow guidance issued by health personnel and local authorities.
"Protect your health by wearing masks or respiratory protection, minimize outdoor activities if the ash is thick, and follow the instructions of health officials and local governments," he said.
The state head emphasized that he will continue to oversee the situation directly and take all necessary steps and decisions to guarantee the safety and protection of all Indonesian citizens.
On this occasion, Prabowo invited the public to pray for the ongoing safety and protection of all Indonesians, particularly those living near Mount Anak Krakatau and along the Sunda Strait.
He also prayed that communities across various regions currently facing disasters and hardship be granted strength and fortitude to endure these trials.
