TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said there are individuals within the government who assist in the theft of state funds. According to Prabowo, the misuse of authority for personal or group gain remains a problem in Indonesia.
"We have to admit that among our bureaucracy, among our ministries and institutions, there are individuals who have been given tasks and honored by the state, but are instead using their authority and power to assist those who steal from state funds," said Prabowo at the Attorney General's Office, Jakarta, on Friday, April 10, 2026.
Prabowo believes that the Indonesian society must acknowledge the existence of such problems. One example of the misuse of power he discussed is the operation of illegal mines. He views these operations as a form of stealing state funds.
Therefore, Prabowo appreciates the efforts of the Forest Area Regulation Task Force (Satgas PKH), which successfully recovered state funds from illegal mining and farming operations. Prabowo established the task force at the beginning of his administration.
During the same event, President Prabowo witnessed the handover of Rp11.4 trillion from Satgas PKH to the state treasury. Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin symbolically handed over the total amount of Rp11.4 trillion to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. This gesture symbolized the return of funds and state assets collected by law enforcement to the state treasurer.
Prabowo stated that the transfer of this fund is part of his administration's ongoing efforts to salvage state funds and assets. "It is an honor and a happiness for me that this has happened several times in the administration that I have led for only 1.5 years now," he said.
Prabowo also referenced previous instances of returning state funds. The Chair of the Gerindra Party stated that in October 2025, the government collected Rp13.2 trillion in state funds related to the criminal corruption case involving the provision of facilities for the export of palm oil and its derivatives.
Furthermore, in December 2025, according to Prabowo, the government again salvaged state funds amounting to Rp6.6 trillion. Thus, Prabowo conveyed that the total cash returned to the state treasury until April 2026 has reached approximately Rp31.3 trillion.
