Premier League Recap: Arsenal Beat Everton 2-0, Manchester City Held to a Draw

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Arsenal is strengthening their position at the top of the English Premier League standings after defeating Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on early Sunday, March 15, 2026. The home team's winning goals were scored by Viktor Gyokeres and Max Dowman towards the end of the match.

The additional three points now place Arsenal at 70 points from 31 matches. Meanwhile, Everton is in eighth place with 43 points.

Arsenal immediately pressed from the start of the match. The first chance came in the fifth minute through a powerful shot by Noni Madueke, which was saved by Everton's goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Everton posed a threat in the 17th minute. A cross that was cleared by David Raya fell to Dwight McNeil, but his shot was blocked by Riccardo Calafiori.

McNeil threatened again with a long-range shot that hit the goalpost and bounced off Iliman Ndiaye before resulting in a goal kick for Arsenal. The away team had another chance in the 31st minute through a shot by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, but Raya made another save. Pickford shone again in the 76th minute by parrying Eberechi Eze's powerful shot towards the goal.

Arsenal's deadlock was finally broken in the 89th minute due to Pickford's mistake. Max Dowman sent a cross to the far post, which hit Piero Hincapie and bounced towards Gyokeres. The striker easily placed the ball into the empty net to give Arsenal a 1-0 lead.

In injury time, Everton attempted to equalize by bringing Pickford up to Arsenal's penalty box during a corner situation. However, Arsenal managed to clear the ball, and Dowman made a solo run from the midfield before scoring a goal into the empty net to secure a 2-0 victory.

Chelsea Stumbles

In another match, Chelsea had to admit defeat to Newcastle United after losing 0-1 at Stamford Bridge. The only goal of the match was scored by Anthony Gordon in the 18th minute.
This defeat places Chelsea in fifth place in the standings with 48 points. Newcastle rises to ninth position with 42 points.

Chelsea showed aggression from the start of the match. The first chance came from a corner situation when Wesley Fofana headed the ball inside the penalty area, but it narrowly missed the crossbar. A few minutes later, Reece James took a shot from outside the penalty area, but the ball was wide of the target. Alejandro Garnacho also created a dangerous opportunity after bypassing several players, but his finish failed to beat Newcastle's goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale.

Newcastle, on the other hand, managed to steal a goal in the 18th minute. Gordon received a pass from Joe Willock and calmly placed the ball into the net. The lead held until halftime, although Chelsea threatened through chances created by Cole Palmer and Reece James.

In the second half, Chelsea intensified their attacks. Liam Delap took a shot from the edge of the penalty area, but Ramsdale secured it. Newcastle almost doubled their lead through Gordon, who took a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, but Robert Sanchez managed to deflect the ball.

Chelsea continued to press until the end of the match. Trevoh Chalobah had a golden opportunity in the 79th minute, but the ball narrowly missed the goal. Reece James almost equalized in injury time, but his free kick hit the goalpost.

Manchester City Held

Meanwhile, Manchester City had to settle for a draw after a 1-1 stalemate with West Ham United at the London Stadium. City took the lead through Bernardo Silva in the first half. However, West Ham managed to equalize through Konstantinos Mavropanos' header.
This result keeps Manchester City in second place in the standings with 61 points. West Ham is in 17th position with 29 points.

City immediately pressed from the start of the match. Erling Haaland tried to capitalise on a through pass from Antoine Semenyo, but the chance only resulted in a corner. City had another chance through Omar Marmoush's free kick, but the ball missed the target.

A golden opportunity came in the 27th minute when Haaland met Rayan Ait-Nouri's cross with a header. However, the ball missed the target. City finally broke the deadlock in the 31st minute. Bernardo Silva received a pass from Marmoush before chipping the ball past West Ham's goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen.

However, the lead did not last long. Four minutes later, West Ham equalized through Mavropanos, who headed the ball from Jarrod Bowen's corner kick.

In the second half, City increased their attacking intensity. Haaland had a great chance inside the penalty area, but Hermansen made a sharp save. City also threatened through set-piece situations. Abdukodir Khusanov's header from Silva's corner kick narrowly missed the crossbar.

Manchester City continued to bombard until injury time. However, Nico O'Reilly and Marc Guehi's chances were not converted into goals, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
