Rayong: Asia's Top Destination for Solo Travelers

6 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Agoda, the digital travel platform, revealed the best Asian slow travel destinations. Slow travel emphasizes a deep experience, focusing on culture, food, and residents. Rayong, a coastal city in Thailand, has been chosen as the top choice for travelers who want to experience this travel concept.

The list of the best slow travel destinations in Asia is based on the analysis of the average length of accommodation reservations made by users from January to March this year. Some travelers often have packed travel schedules, covering many places in a short time. Others prefer to stay longer and truly immerse themselves in one destination.

Akaporn Rodkong, Country Director of Agoda in Thailand, said that more and more travelers are choosing to enjoy the places they visit. There are many options for slow travel in Asia, such as Rayong, which offers a combination of coastal charm, nature, and local culture that encourages tourists to relish their time.

"Our platform makes it easy to find the best deals on accommodation and activities that encourage you to move at your own pace and truly appreciate your surroundings," he said, as quoted from Nation Thailand.

Attractions in Rayong

Rayong offers several relaxing spots such as the long Mae Ram Phueng Beach, the peaceful golden mangrove forest at Tung Prong Thong, and the tranquil island atmosphere of Koh Samet, an ideal place to relax and savor the moment. Tourists can also enjoy the refreshing scenery at Mae Pim Cape, swim in clear water, and enjoy gentle waves.

On its official website, the Tourism Authority of Thailand suggests the best time to visit Rayong is from November to February. When visiting Rayong, do not miss the fresh seafood offered along the coast and at restaurants, such as shrimp paste, dried salted shrimp, dried squid, and salted fish from the Ban Phe market.

The traditional Rayong Fruit Festival is also held every May, when the fruit is in season. The festival is enlivened with many activities such as fruit parades, fruit competitions, the Miss Fruit Gardener contest, and discounted fruit sales.

Other Slow Travel Destinations in Asia

In addition to Rayong, Agoda lists eight other Asian cities as the best destinations for slow travel. They include Kalegowa in Indonesia, Seoul in South Korea, Tokyo in Japan, Nha Trang in Vietnam, Boracay Island in the Philippines, Taipei in Taiwan, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and Chennai in India.

Kalegowa is located in Gowa Regency, South Sumatra. Referred to as a hidden gem, this city invites travelers to relax and enjoy its lush natural scenery and rich cultural heritage. The area is known for its green rice fields, traditional Bugis architecture, and hospitality. Visitors can explore the local market, enjoy authentic Indonesian cuisine, and stroll through beautiful footpaths.

Seoul, South Korea, may be known as a bustling metropolis. However, traditional cultural heritage such as old palaces, hanok traditional houses, and lively alleys coexist throughout the city. The city draws attention as a slow travel destination, where tourists can experience current trends and stay longer to explore cultural elements.

You can explore the historic streets of Bukchon Hanok Village, rest in a traditional teahouse, explore hidden alleys, and enjoy Korean barbecue.
