TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Consolidation Conference of the Republic (Republic Conference) has concluded its meeting in Cikini, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, June 28, 2026. The four-hour discussion covered three core themes, namely the platform, movement design, and organizational management.
Secretary General of the Republic Conference Committee, Yanuar Nugroho, stated that more than 200 individuals from various organizations participated in the discussion. "They participated in the discussion both physically and virtually," said the former Deputy Chief of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) after the conference concluded in Cikini, Central Jakarta.
He mentioned that the discussion on the platform aimed to unify the diverse perspectives of the participants from different organizational backgrounds. The debate highlighted the core values to be upheld by the organization. "There are various perspectives regarding the advocated values," he said.
However, all participants agreed that the values upheld must serve the public's welfare. "We then linked it to mutual cooperation; the coalition must span across generations, sectors, and actors," he said.
The agreed-upon goal of the movement is to strive to restore the rights of citizens as active subjects, rather than objects, of governance. He stated that the public needs to be meaningfully involved in both national development and politics.
A Network-Based Alliance
The second theme of the discussion covered the organizational structure. The congress agreed that the Republic Conference will not be formed as a political party and will not be structured as a hierarchical organization with central and branch leaders.
The participants instead agreed on a network-based organizational design. This means that the organization will attempt to connect a wide array of different groups, ranging from book publishers, civil society groups, women's rights groups, people with disabilities, farmers, laborers, and workers, to academics.
"Of course, it is not easy, but due to the principles of inclusivity and togetherness, the platform is structured in a way that allows various organizations to gather," he said.
The third theme discussed was leadership, where three leadership attributes were agreed upon. First is institutional leadership. "So it's not about highlighting oneself, but being willing to care for the institution—institutional leadership," he said.
Second is collective leadership. This approach means the movement will continuously renew its strategies and structure under various shifting conditions. "So it is worked on together," he said.
Third is intrinsic leadership. This form of leadership prioritizes shared values over pragmatic and egocentric interests.
In the discussion on management, it was agreed that 17 people will become new officials. Thus, the total number of officials will be brought to 20 people. However, it has not yet been finalized which positions they will hold.
The Chairperson of the Republic Conference Committee, Sudirman Said, noted that the three themes discussed are not yet final. The discussion is still at the stage of outlining basic ideas.
The selection of the twenty officials is also not finalized yet. He targets that the formal management structure will be fully formed in the next two weeks.
"We will continue to walk from region to region; there may be additions that enrich the platform as well as strengthen the organization," he said.
The Sudden Ban by UI
The University of Indonesia (UI) had previously abruptly banned the activity titled "Konferensi Republik: Jalan Menata Kembali Republik" (Republic Conference: The Road to Rebuilding the Republic) at the UI Campus in Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
A Republic Conference Committee member, Jaleswari Pramodhawardhani, stated that UI argued the activity did not comply with administrative procedures. "Yet, we have followed the procedures," she said at the UI Salemba Campus, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
She explained that the committee had submitted a letter requesting an activity permit well in advance. On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, UI granted permission for the use of campus facilities in the form of an assignment letter. "We interpreted that the letter meant it was accepted," she said.
However, on Saturday, June 27, 2026, the committee received a notification from UI revoking the permit.
The Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs of UI, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, said that the university is currently preparing an official response to the incident.
