TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Hong Kong government is developing popular tourist spots to provide new experiences for travelers shifting to more cultural experiences and to benefit the economy.
Deputy Secretary Cheuk Wing-hing said there are many valuable tourist spots in Hong Kong, as quoted from gov.hk.com. In addition to creating new popular tourist spots, tourism resources must also be enriched to maximize the value of these spots, including creating attractions that travelers cannot miss.
The Popular Tourist Spot Development Working Group will gradually develop several tourist spots from the end of this year to next year. These locations are chosen because they have prominent Hong Kong characteristics and culture.
Additionally, according to Cheuk, these interesting spots are scattered throughout the city, emphasizing the concept of tourism everywhere in Hong Kong. Here are the tourist spots that will be developed by the local government, as reported by Lifestyle Asia.
1. Victoria Park Bazaar
Approximately 30 booths will be opened at the entrance of Victoria Park in Causeway Bay, focusing on cultural services, crafts, and artworks. This place will be open on weekends and national holidays. It will offer a variety of themed activities to create a lively art exhibition atmosphere. This project will be launched in the quarter of this year.
2. Pink Trumpet Tree Park
Complementing the seaside scenery of Central, vibrant pink trumpet trees and bougainvillea bushes will be planted along the harbor edge of Tamar Park. This beautiful flower exhibition will be completed by the end of the year.
3. Old Town Central Tour
HKTB and HKwalls have collaborated to transform Central into an open art gallery featuring murals by local and international artists. Visitors can explore hidden gems and experience local dining in this area starting from the end of this year.
4. Kowloon City Tour
Travelers can explore the cultural heritage richness of Kowloon City through culinary tours and curated routes based on the exhibition "Kowloon Walled City: A Cinematic Journey."
In addition, the Tourism Commission will present the augmented reality project "City in Time" to the district this year. Travelers can digitally experience various historical places such as Kowloon Walled City and Kai Tak Airport through immersive AR recreations of their heyday.
5. Disciplinary Services Pioneer Tour
Specialized museums in Hong Kong, including the Police Museum, Correctional Services Museum, and Fire and Ambulance Services Education Center, will cooperate with tour operators to create new visitor experiences that will be launched this spring. Thus, travelers can participate in themed tours about the history of Hong Kong's emergency services.
6. Yau Ma Tei Police Station Opening
Travelers can soon visit the historic Yau Ma Tei Police Station in Hong Kong, famous in many police films. The police station will be transformed into a Police Museum. However, before that, the ground floor will be opened by the end of 2025. So travelers can see the reconstructed police station and prison cells, AR photo spots, classic crime film screenings, and souvenir shops.
7. "Four Peaks" Tourism
Meanwhile, to promote nature tourism in Hong Kong, the government will enhance hiking trails for four popular routes: The Peak, Lantau Peak, Sharp Island Country Trail, and Tai Mo Shan. Development will include improved transportation to and from hiking trails to the main urban areas, as well as more directional signs and hiking information.
8. Former Hung Hom Railway Freight Terminal Pier
The former Hung Hom Railway Freight Terminal Pier will be transformed into a dynamic waterfront space, offering a unique location for events with stunning panoramic views of Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island. Travelers can expect to enjoy this place in the first quarter of next year.
