TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - More than two months after naming earlier suspects, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) finally announced two new suspects in the 2024 additional haj quota corruption case on Monday, March 30, 2026. They are Ismail Adham, operations director of Makassar Toraja (Maktour), and Asrul Azis Taba, chairman of the Indonesian haj and Umrah Tour Association (Kesthuri) and commissioner of Raudah Eksati Utama.
On January 9, 2026, the KPK had already named the 2020–2024 Religious Affairs Minister, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, and his special staffer, Ishfah Abidal Azis, also known as Gus Alex, as suspects. Yaqut and Alex have been detained, while Ismail and Asrul are awaiting their turn.
KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu said Ismail and Asrul allegedly helped arrange additional special haj quota allocations for travel agencies affiliated with them. Like Yaqut and Alex, they are accused of causing state losses under Articles 2(1) and 3 of the Corruption Eradication Law.
At the press conference announcing the new suspects, Asep said both men were also suspected of channeling money to Yaqut through Gus Alex and then, Director General of Haj and Umrah Implementation Hilman Latief. Ismail allegedly gave US$30,000 to Alex and US$5,000 to Hilman, while Asrul gave US$406,000 to Alex. However, they have not been charged with bribery.
