Apple's iOS 18.5 Launches with Starlink-Powered Satellite Messaging

2 hours ago 1

TEMPO.CO, JakartaApple released the iOS 18.5 operating system for iPhones on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. One of the key features introduced in this update is a free trial that allows users to connect via satellite.

According to The Verge on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, “T-Mobile users who have an iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, or iPhone 13 Pro Max will be able to use its Starlink-powered satellite messaging service.”

The service is currently available for free in the U.S. until the trial period concludes in July.

T-Mobile is a telecommunications service provider offering phone, internet, and data connectivity. It operates as a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, headquartered in Bonn, Germany.

The Verge reports that this satellite service will be available for free during the trial period, which ends in July. However, the feature can only be accessed on devices supplied by T-Mobile. iPhone users on this network will not be able to use Apple's native satellite features such as Emergency SOS, which are available on the iPhone 14 and newer models.

In addition to the satellite trial, Apple also introduced a Pride-themed wallpaper. This initiative is part of the company's support for the LGBTQ+ community in celebration of Pride Month in June.

The Pride Harmony watch face and iPhone and iPad wallpaper will be available in an upcoming software update with watchOS 11.5, iOS 18.5, and iPadOS 18.5,” Apple stated.

Based on information from Apple Developer notes, the update also includes the release of iPadOS 18.5. Developers addressed several bugs and issues found in earlier versions.

One fix involved the Apple Vision Pro app, which previously launched with a black screen when downloaded from the App Store in iOS 18.4 beta 1. Apple confirmed, “Upgrade to iOS 18.4 beta 2 and later, and the app will launch as expected.”

Apple also resolved issues with Siri, such as problems with resuming playback on Apple Music and malfunctions in Writing Tools due to software settings. All of these issues have been addressed in the latest update.
