Bournemouth are in sixth place with 58 points from 37 matches, three points adrift of the Champions League places.
City's first threat came when Jeremy Doku's shot was blocked by Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.
City winger Antoine Semenyo scored against Bournemouth, but the referee ruled the goal offside.
Abdukodir Khusanov then tried to put City ahead, but his shot missed the target.
Despite pressure, Bournemouth took the lead in the 38th minute with a goal from Eli Junior.
In the second half, City again took the initiative and created a chance through Nico O'Reilly's shot, which was saved by Petrovic.
Bournemouth occasionally threatened the City goal, including a David Brooks shot that was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Brooks had another chance to double Bournemouth's lead, but his shot hit the post.
