TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Artemis II crew, part of a historic NASA mission, began their return journey on Tuesday, April 7, following a 10-day lunar voyage, the first in over half a century.
Meanwhile, NASA released the first photos captured during the mission's approach to the lunar surface on Monday, April 6, via its X account, @NASA. The agency also announced a targeted splashdown scheduled for April 10 in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego, California.
At around 8:07 p.m. ET on April 11 (0007 UTC), the four-member Artemis II crew splashed down in the Pacific Ocean.
During the mission, the crew broke the record for venturing deeper into space than any other humans in history.
US astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen returned to Earth aboard their Orion spacecraft, named Integrity.
"We have you loud and clear," mission commander Wiseman said following a communications check.
"What a journey," he added. "We are stable."
Trump Congratulates Artemis II Crew on ‘Spectacular’ Trip
US President Donald Trump congratulated the four-member crew of the Artemis II in a post on his Truth Social platform.
"Congratulations to the Great and Very Talented Crew of Artemis II. The entire trip was spectacular, the landing was perfect and, as President of the United States, I could not be more proud!"
Trump said he looked forward to seeing them at the White House soon.
"We’ll be doing it again and then, next step, Mars!" Trump said.
