TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The five members of Backstreet Boys are eyeing the main stage at the Super Bowl Halftime Show 2027. Beyond mere talks, members Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, and Kevin Richardson hope for global fan support to make the bid a reality. "Let's make it happen!"

As reported by E!News, during their concert at the Las Vegas Sphere on February 11, 2026, AJ McLean urged thousands of audience to picture the possibility of Backstreet Boys performing at the Super Bowl 2027 at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, a city considered "home" by some band members.

“What do you guys think? Backstreet Boys: 2027 Super Bowl halftime? Let's make it happen!" expressed McLean amidst the cheers of the arena.

Moreover, according to People, McLean even announced the launch of an online petition to garner public support and prove to the event organizers that their fans want the idols to be the headliner. Meanwhile, Nick Carter added that if they were granted this opportunity, the show would be designed as a "pop explosion" with the possibility of bringing in several pop music icons from the 1990s and early 2000s, including prominent names like Britney Spears, *NSYNC, and 98 Degrees.

Carter believes that the music from that era still holds strong nostalgic energy for many generations of fans. "We're biased because we really think that our era of music, coming from the late '90s, early 2000s, is probably some of the most nostalgic for people and makes people feel good," he added, as quoted from EW.

The Backstreet Boys' Decision 25 Years Ago

The ambition to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show did not come out of nowhere; it stemmed from a decision they made 25 years ago.

As reported by E!News, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2021, Nick Carter revealed that the Backstreet Boys were actually offered the main performance slot at the Super Bowl 2001. At that time, they chose to reject the halftime show and decided to sing the American national anthem.

"At that time, we loved Whitney Houston rendition of the national anthem. And for us, we got the choice and we passed on the halftime," stated Carter. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the experience remained memorable. "And I like to say we did a really good job at the national anthem."

In the end, that halftime show featured a spectacular collaboration between *NSYNC and Aerosmith, which also included Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly as part of the main lineup, according to USA Today.
