TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several public facilities in Bali will be closed during Nyepi Day (Day of Silence), including the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. The international airport will temporarily cease flight operations and airport activities for 24 hours.

"All regular commercial flight activities at the airport will be halted from Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 06:00 WITA (UTC+8) until Friday, March 20, 2026, at 06:00 WITA," said Nugroho Jati, General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) for I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

During this period, there will be no regular flights departing or arriving at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. Notice to Airmen (Notam) number A0096 has been issued by Perum LPPNPI/AirNav Indonesia. This operational suspension has been coordinated with all aviation stakeholders, including airlines, AirNav Indonesia, the Airport Authority Office of Region IV, and related agencies.

The temporary suspension of airport operations during Nyepi Day is routinely conducted every year. The aim is to support the Hindu community in Bali in observing the four Nyepi vows with solemnity.

However, several airport personnel will remain on standby to support emergency flight operations, such as medical evacuation or special flights, when necessary and approved by the relevant authorities.

During this period, a total of 440 regular commercial flight schedules will not operate, including 231 domestic flights and 209 international flights. It is planned that 19 aircraft will remain overnight (Ron) at Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.

According to the schedule, the last departure flights before the operational suspension will be on Wednesday, March 18, at 23:10 WITA for domestic routes, and on Thursday, March 19, at 01:30 WITA for international routes. The last arrival flights will be on Wednesday, March 18, at 23:05 WITA for domestic routes, and on Thursday, March 19, at 00:30 WITA for international routes.

As for the first departure flights after the resumption of operations, they are scheduled for Friday, March 20, at 07:00 WITA for domestic routes and at 08:15 WITA for international routes. Meanwhile, the first arrival flight will be at 08:20 WITA for domestic routes, and at 07:05 WITA for international routes.

Toll Road and National Parks Closure

Another public facility to be closed is the Bali Mandara Toll Road. The operational closure will be in effect from Wednesday, March 18, at 23:00 WITA until Friday, March 20, at 07:00 WITA.

"However, the toll road access can still be used for emergency purposes, such as fire trucks, ambulances, and other important operational vehicles," said I Ketut Adiputra Karang, President Director of PT JBT.

The use of the toll road for these purposes must be accompanied by traditional Balinese security personnel (pecalang) or the relevant agencies according to applicable procedures. During the closure, toll staff will remain on alert to ensure services continue operating according to standard procedures.

Meanwhile, the Bali Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) announced the temporary closure of visits to conservation forest areas during the national holiday and Nyepi Day of the Saka New Year 1948.

"The temporary closure is applied to four Natural Conservation Areas (TWA)," said Ratna Hendratmoko, Head of BKSDA Bali.

The four temporarily closed TWAs are Danau Buyan-Danau Tamblingan TWA in Tabanan Regency, Panelokan TWA in Bangli Regency, Gunung Batur Bukit Payang TWA in Bangli Regency, and Sangeh TWA in Badung Regency, Bali.

Visits to these areas will be closed for 3 days, from Wednesday to Friday, or from March 18 to 20, 2026. The areas will be reopened on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 09:00 WITA.
