TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The bodies of three UN peacekeepers from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) have been sent off to their respective regions. This occurred after a procession and departure ceremony held at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten on Saturday evening, April 4, 2026.
The departure ceremony for the soldiers of the Yonmek Konga XXIII-S United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was led by the Chief of the Indonesian Army Staff, General Maruli Simanjuntak. In his speech, Maruli stated that the three soldiers would be buried with military honors in their respective regions.
Two Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) aircraft are prepared to transport the bodies at around 7:40 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time). Corporal (posthumous) Farizal Rhomadhon and Sergeant (posthumous) Muhammad Nur Ichwan were dispatched to their home in Yogyakarta, Special Region of Yogyakarta.
Meanwhile, Major (posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar was flown to Bandung, West Java. The families who attended the procession and departure ceremony accompanied the bodies to their hometowns.
The three TNI soldiers died during a peace mission in Lebanon due to an attack by Israel on March 29 and 30, 2026. Before being flown to Indonesia, UNIFIL held a tribute ceremony for the three bodies at Rafic Hariri International Airport, Beirut, Lebanon on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
The bodies of the three soldiers arrived in Indonesia on Saturday afternoon, April 4, 2026. The bodies had been flown from Beirut, Lebanon the day before.
The funeral procession for the TNI soldiers was attended by several state officials, including President Prabowo Subianto, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Deputy Defense Minister Donny Ermawan, and Deputy Coordinator Minister for Political and Security Affairs Lodewijk F. Paulus.
Also present were National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and heads of the military staff.
Tears flowed as the families welcomed their sons' bodies. Representatives of the Yonmek Konga XXIII-S UNIFIL forces were seen embracing the coffins of their sons, to the accompaniment of the song 'Gugur Bunga' composed by Ismail Marzuki.
In front of each coffin, the photos of the fallen soldiers who lost their lives in the Israeli attack in Lebanon were displayed. The victims were Corporal (posthumous) Farizal Rhomadhon, Major (posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, and Sergeant (posthumous) Muhammad Nur Ichwan.
The head of state approached and conversed with the families' representatives sitting in front of the coffins. The Chair of the Gerindra Party also paid his final respects to the three soldiers.
The families were visibly emotional in front of Prabowo. One of the families of the fallen soldiers expressed their grievances to the president.
"Our husband was praying, Sir," one of the family members said to Prabowo, as seen in a live broadcast at the Presidential Secretariat on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
